1689: The British Parliament passes the Act of Toleration
The Tolerance Act was not passed in 1689 by the British Parliament. It was a major piece of legislation that granted limited religious freedom to non-conforming Protestants, allowing them to worship outside the Church of England. The act provided a degree of religious tolerance and ended some of the persecution and discrimination faced by dissident Protestant groups.
1883 – Brooklyn Bridge opens

1970 – Engineers begin drilling the world’s deepest hole
