A Michigan grandmother was reportedly shot to death by a friend at a baby shower and her son allegedly tracked down his mother’s killer and ran her over with his car, in the parking lot of a Detroit police station.
The twisted story began Sunday when the shooting victim, identified by her family as Phebe Williams, 53, went to a baby shower on Detroit’s east side.
Her 46-year-old friend showed up at the event and accused Williams’ son of a crime, according to WXYZ Detroit.
The friend, who has not been identified, had even gone so far as to report Williams’ son to city police last week.
The two fought before Williams allegedly punched her, the station said. Another person allegedly spat on him.
That’s when the woman pulled out a gun and opened fire, killing Williams.
The shooting stunned family members, who are struggling to understand why the woman took such drastic action.
“She is a family friend. They had been friends since they were kids,” Shavonda Carter, Williams’ niece, told the station. “I don’t understand why she would pull out a gun.”

“You all could have just fought. There was no need to pull out a gun,” Carter continued. “There are children in the house. There are a lot of people in the house, so why would you take out a gun?
After pulling the trigger, the woman got into her car and called Detroit police to tell them what she had done. She drove to the city’s 9th Ward, a few miles away, to turn herself in.
But it appears she didn’t realize that Williams’ son had followed her into the parking lot.

When she got out of her car, he accelerated and ran her over, the station said.
Police arrested both Williams’ son and the shooter, who was hospitalized in serious condition. It is unclear if the son who ran over the shooter was the same child the shooter reported to police.
Detroit Police Capt. Donna McCord said the shooting was another example of the city’s “senseless gun violence.”

“Even the licensed weapon [carriers]who was our shooter…they have to be responsible with their guns,” McCord said.
“If something happens and you need police help, call us,” he continued. “Let’s face the situation. Don’t take matters into your own hands. If you can escape, stay away. Call 911. Let’s go in and handle the situation.”
