On Sunday, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft successfully entered lunar orbit. If everything goes as planned, the current mission will safely land near the Moon’s little-explored south pole between August 23 and 24.
ISRO has been launching the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into orbits further and further away from Earth since its launch on July 14.

The ISRO released a video of the Moon ‘as viewed by Chandrayaan-3’ on Sunday, one day after Chandrayaan-3 entered lunar orbit.
The video was released by the space agency with the caption “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: The Moon, as seen by Chandrayaan-3 during Lunar Orbit Insertion.”
The Moon was shown in a bluish green hue with several craters in the film.
The footage was made public just hours before the second major operation, which is scheduled for late Sunday night.
Chandrayaan-3 is the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) second attempt in four years, following its first lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, in 2008. Unfortunately, the succeeding mooncraft mission, Chandrayaan-2, failed during its lunar phase when its lander designated ‘Vikram’ crashed-landed on September 7, 2019 due to irregularities in the braking system while attempting a soft landing.

So far, the Moon mission has gone smoothly, and the ISRO anticipates the Vikram lander to land softly on the lunar surface on August 23.
First message from Chandrayaan-3
On Saturday, Chandrayaan-3 successfully reached lunar orbit, 22 days after it was launched on a complex 41-day journey to the lunar south pole, where no other country has gone before.

“I am feeling lunar gravity,” said Chandrayaan-3 to the ISRO after the necessary manoeuvre that brought it closer to the Moon went off without a hitch from the space agency’s Bengaluru station.
The injection into lunar orbit was a significant step forward in the space agency’s ambitious 600 crore programme.
