A shocking case has been reported in Korea.
South Korean police reported that an ardent true crime enthusiast obsessed with murder-themed TV shows and books has allegedly confessed to the murder and dismemberment of a female guardian, citing curiosity as the motive.
According to the police spokesman, Jung Yoo-Jung, 23, was arrested in Busan on Wednesday.
The Chosun Ilbo, the oldest daily in South Korea, has reported this. According to the Korea Times, he received a formal murder charge on Friday.
According to The Chosun Ilbo, a police spokesman claimed that Jung had premeditated the crime because he had become obsessed with the murder after watching TV shows and reading books about it.
Police have not released the identity of the brutal stabbing victim, an independent tutor, according to The Korea Times.
Jung Yoo-Jung allegedly found the tutor online. Investigators from The Chosun Ilbo claim that Jung initially posed as the mother of a ninth-grader and was looking for a private tutor for her daughter to learn English.
Three months before the murder, police discovered that Jung had searched online for information on how to hide a dead body, based on his phone records.
Police stated that Jung borrowed books from a library and watched true crime shows to learn methods to kill someone.
According to police, Jung used a tutoring app to track down his victim while equipped with knowledge of fatal stabbing techniques.
Two days before the incident, Jung contacted the tutor and arranged a consultation at home, claiming that he would send his daughter there.
On the day of the stabbing, Jung reportedly appeared at the victim’s home wearing a school uniform purchased online.
The police spokesperson suggests that the victim likely mistook her for a high school student due to her short stature. Tragically, when the victim opened the door, Jung allegedly stabbed her with a knife.
After the murder, Jung dismembered the woman, according to police.
Jung bought bleach and garbage bags at a nearby supermarket, then placed the body parts in a suitcase. He took a taxi to a wooded area near the Nakdong River and left the bag there.
The Chosun Ilbo reported that Jung kept the victim’s phone, ID card and wallet to make it appear as if the victim had disappeared.
A suspicious taxi driver alerted the police, who reportedly discovered the victim’s remaining body parts at Jung’s residence and in the garbage bags.
Initially, Jung claimed that he killed the woman after an argument.
However, when investigators found inconsistencies in her story and her family urged her to tell the truth, she confessed, according to police.
The police spokesman mentioned that Jung expressed remorse for his actions and tests are underway to determine if he exhibits psychopathic traits.
According to The Korean Times, Jung reportedly said, “I think he was crazy,” when asked about the alleged crime.
