As the frequency of this exam is once a year, it has great importance for all the medical aspirants across the country. Previously, aspiring doctors had to take various types of tests to qualify and get admitted to multiple medical institutions. Furthermore, the tests, location, and curriculum of each medical institute were different, making admissions to medical institutions quite difficult.

Therefore, the National Testing Agency came up with a creative solution to this challenging problem for students and medical institutions in India. The NEET exam has replaced other eligibility and admission tests in the country, making admission easier and hassle-free. This exam was first introduced in 2013 by the NTA.
The NEET 2023 exam was conducted on May 7 by the NTA. Around two million students registered for this exam from March 6 to April 15. Thousands of students took this exam across the country. Many students from various parts of the country prepare for this exam every year.
Many students get admission in various medical institutions based on their NEET scores. The minimum qualifying marks for NEET vary every year. Similarly, the minimum passing marks of students belonging to different categories are also different.

This important examination was carried out at various affiliated centers throughout the country. This exam is mainly taken in offline mode.
NEET Exam Pattern 2023
Students must answer two hundred multiple choice questions on this exam. The duration of this exam is 3 hours and 20 minutes. Multiple choice questions include many questions from various subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.
Also, this exam is conducted in thirteen languages including Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Urdu, Odia, Punjabi, and Telugu. This linguistic diversity simplifies questions in various languages spoken in India.
Each problem has four points and one point is deducted for each incorrect choice point. According to these data, this important exam contains 720 points. For unattended questions, marks will not be deducted by the examining authority.
The exam is divided into four subjects, with two sections for each subject.

- Chemistry Section A contains 140 points and Chemistry Section B contains 40 points, for a total of 180 points. The markschemes for this section are the same as those for the other sections.
- Physics Section A contains 140 points and Physics Section B contains 40 points, for a total of 180 points. The markings for this section are the same as those for the other sections.
- Botany Section A contains 140 points and Botany Section B has 40 points, for a total of 180. The grading structures for this section are the same as for the other sections.
- Zoology Section A contains 140 marks and Section B has 40 marks, for a total of 180. The marking arrangement for this section is the same as the other sections.
NEET cut in 2023 by category
The NEET 2023 cutoff is different every year depending on the number of candidates, overall marks, number of candidates required in various medical institutions, difficulty level of NEET exam and several other important factors. In addition, the minimum grades required for students belonging to different categories are also different each year. For example,
- The previous year’s cut-off percentile for candidates belonging to General categories was the 50th percentile, and the minimum cut-off marks for General Candidates were between 715 and 117.
- The previous year cut-off percentile for candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories was 40th percentile and the minimum cut-off marks for these Candidates were between 116 and 93.
- The cutoff percentile for the previous year for candidates belonging to the General Physical Disability categories was the 45th percentile, and the minimum cutoff scores for these candidates were between 116 and 105.
- The prior-year cutoff percentile for applicants in the SC/ST/OBC physical disability categories was the 40th percentile, and the 2023 NEET cutoff for these applicants was between 104 and 93.
Therefore, the cut-off marks for these students belonging to different categories vary every year. The cut-off marks may go up or down, depending on the level of difficulty of the exam and the number of candidates who appear. Several other factors also play an important role in determining the minimum qualifications required.
Several renowned medical institutions, such as AIIMS and JIPMER, require specific ranks obtained by candidates on this important exam. Therefore, many candidates are accepted into these renowned institutions only if they pass the eligibility test and get a good standing.

The NEET cutoff 2023 for admission in these top medical institutions of India also differs. However, candidates can get a basic idea of the upcoming limits for these institutions based on data from the previous year’s limits.
- The required rank of the AIIMS institution for the previous year ranged from Rank 1 to Rank 51. Therefore, candidates who achieved ranks between these ranks were eligible to be accepted by this medical institution.
- The required rank of the previous year JIPMR institution was between rank 8 and rank 4087. Therefore, candidates who secured ranks between these ranks were eligible to be accepted by this medical institution.
- The required rank of the previous year by SMS Medical College ranged from rank 82 to rank 1185. Therefore, candidates who achieved ranks between these ranks were eligible to be accepted by this medical institution.
- The required rank from the previous year at Seth GS Medical College ranged from rank 92 to rank 935. Therefore, candidates who achieved ranks between these ranks were eligible for acceptance to this medical institution.
