Who was the guy who was trapped in the jewelry vault?
According to Deputy Fire Chief John Sarrocco, the fire department was called to the midtown Manhattan building on Tuesday night after the man became trapped while trying to enter his safe deposit box.
What is a jewelry vault?
A jewelry vault is a secure storage area or room designed to store and protect valuable jewelry, gemstones, precious metals, and other high-value items. These vaults are often used by jewelry stores, pawn shops, banks, and people who have a significant collection of valuable jewelry.
Jewelry vaults are built with special attention to security. They often have reinforced walls, floors, and ceilings to resist intrusion. Security measures may include advanced locking systems, alarms, surveillance cameras and access control systems.
Where did the incident occur?
The World Diamond Tower, located at 580 Fifth Avenue, is home to several jewelry stores. Sarrocco did not say anything about how the man became trapped.
Fire department and police officers were communicating with the individual inside the vault and observing him via a security camera. Sarrocco said fire department rescue teams have tools capable of breaking through the vault’s 30-inch steel-reinforced concrete walls.
“The process of breaking the vault wall has begun,” he said at the scene during a press conference.
When did it come out?
Sarrocco said that after about 10 hours, firefighters reached the steel plate and chose not to go any further, concerned that their rescue efforts would harm the person trapped inside.
“The problem with the lining is that we would have to use our torches,” he continued, “which would affect that person’s environment inside the vault. Sarrocco said the doors opened at 7 a.m. as planned, and the individual was unharmed.
