New York mother whose daughter was killed in Israel questions Americans who support Hamas cause

An Upper East Side mother whose daughter was one of 260 people massacred by Hamas at a music festival pleaded with Americans who support the terrorist group’s cause to reconsider.

Hannie Ricardo’s daughter Oriya was shot and killed at the Tribe of Nova event, where terrorists shot into the fleeing crowd, threw grenades at concertgoers, and took hostages.

“There are terrorists and many people in the United States support them. In the name of freedom of expression, you let them speak and support these terrorists,” Ricardo told The Post. “I know they have this freedom of speech amendment, but they also support that freedom of hate. What are you doing with that? Freedom from hate: is that good? Just give me one good reason for freedom from hate.”

Ricardo, 58, who is here studying at Hunter College, said: “I’m not going to last. I’m breaking down,” following the death of 26-year-old Oriya, who died while trying to escape the carnage of the Oct. 7 surprise attack.

“My daughter tried to run away and cried, but they caught up with her 100 meters from the car and shot her,” said the mother of three. “They called me and told me that my daughter was missing and I took the first flight back to Israel.”

Oriya Richardo and her mother share a heartfelt moment. Hannie Ricardo’s daughter was shot dead at the Tribe of Nova event, where Hamas terrorists fired into the fleeing crowd. Oriya Ricardo was “the light of my life, and she was taken from me in the most brutal way,” her mother told The Post.Instagram / @ oriya.ricardo

Ricardo returned to Tel Aviv, where his two eldest daughters were also staying before the attack, earlier this week.

“She was the most beautiful girl on this planet,” the grieving mother said, breaking down as she spoke of her youngest son. “I’m still waiting for her to walk through the door. [or give] She calls me on the phone saying, ‘Oh, it was a mistake, that’s not your daughter,’ and I’ll see her with a boyfriend, getting married. I will see my grandchildren. I still hope so, but you know.

Another 1,900 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip as Israel relentlessly launches rockets into the area, vowing to erase Hamas from existence.

“They are hateful people and they live to kill. This is not a war. In wars, no matter how stupid they are, you have armies fighting armies,” he said. “This was an operation organized by the Nazis. You saw this type of cruelty in the Holocaust. …Is this a war? It’s not a war. He’s killing people for fun.
