A New York County public defender will be able to keep her job after apologizing for brazenly tearing down posters of hostages missing in the war between Israel and Hamas, her employer said.
Lawyer Victoria Ruiz was captured in a viral video last week tearing down one of the many posters posted around the Big Apple since the terrorist organization attacked Israel on October 7.
in the videoRuiz ignores the person behind the camera who repeatedly asks, “Why are you taking pictures of missing children?”
Ruiz was identified as the person tearing down the signs in the video by non-profit watchdog StopAntisemitism.
When contacted by The Post, New York County Defender Services condemned Ruiz’s actions as “highly insensitive.”
“It has come to our attention that one of our attorneys, Victoria Ruiz, recently attended a public vigil solely in her capacity as a private citizen,” Lupe Todd-Medina, spokesperson for New York County Defender Services, said in a communicated to The Correo.

“Some of their actions at the event have drawn harsh criticism and we strongly condemn them for being highly insensitive.”
But after an internal investigation into the incident, NYCDS accepted Ruiz’s apology and his promise to “do better.”
“EM. Ruiz has apologized to those who were hurt or confused by his actions. After an internal review and a commitment from everyone involved to do better, we accept this apology and now refocus on vigorously pursuing our mission : achieving justice and dignity for every individual we represent,” Todd-Medina said.

Countless people have been filmed tearing down or destroying posters of children and adults taken hostage in the war between Israel and Hamas in New York City.
The criminals include a New York University student who lost his job over the scandal and a Brooklyn man who was arrested after getting into a fight caught on video while cruelly trying to tear down hostage signs.
