Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley dropped the ball Saturday in the Hawkeye State, confusing University of Iowa all-around basketball player Caitlin Clark with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins.
Before the Lady Hawkeyes’ game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Hailey attempted to praise the No. 4 team at an event in Coralville, but ended up mistakenly referring to guard Clark as Collins.
“What a team they are. What a great coach,” Haley said, according to a publication by Gazette reporter Tom Barton.
“Kaitlan Collins is phenomenal,” he gushed.
Collins was quick to chime in with X about the former South Carolina governor’s confusion.
“I can assure you that his free throw percentage is much better than mine,” the CNN anchor said. wrote of Clark.
Haley’s appearance in Iowa comes ahead of the state’s Republican presidential caucuses on Jan. 15, as other candidates rush to campaign stops in an effort to improve their performance next month.

Haley is currently polling third in Iowa, with just 16.1%, behind former President Donald Trump, with 51.3%, and Ron DeSantis, with 18.6%, according to the polling average. RealClearPolitics polls.
Saturday’s gaffe came just days after Haley was ridiculed for her comments at a town hall in New Hampshire, where she failed to mention slavery as the root cause of the Civil War.
Haley’s team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
