On Jan. 1, authorities responded to a hoax 911 call directing them to Haley’s Kiawah Island home after a woman alleged the 2024 Republican hopeful had killed her daughter and was threatening to commit suicide, a report revealed. of the incident.
The episode took place two days after another fake emergency call sent police to his South Carolina residence on December 30, 2023, in a case of a malicious criminal prank known as swatting.
The caller further claimed, with doubt, that his daughter was lying in a pool of blood on the floor.
A woman answered the door and a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputy quickly concluded the call was a hoax, the report, first obtained by Reuters, said.
Over the weekend, news emerged about the Dec. 30 incident, during which a caller falsely claimed that a man had shot a woman and was preparing to hurt himself.
“I wasn’t home, but Michael and I took care of my parents. They are 87 and 90 years old and we take care of them. And they were at home and with their caregiver,” Haley said of the first hitting incident on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

“It is a terrible situation. He endangered law enforcement officers. He put my family in danger. And you know, it was not a safe situation.”
The South Carolina Republican then revealed, “This has happened to us twice.” The details of the second instance were not previously known.
Haley served as governor of South Carolina from 2011 to early 2017 and as US ambassador to the UN from 2017 to 2018.
In recent months, swatting has increasingly been used against a group of high-profile politicians, including prominent politicians like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.) and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.

“We have lived in a country of chaos for quite some time. It’s time we remember what normal felt like. It’s time for us to remember what healing feels like,” Haley added on Sunday.
