The National Institutes Ranking Framework, 2023 has been released and the top institutes in the country have been named in several different categories. Read this article to find out which universities are the best in which category.
JE News Desk: For the fifth consecutive year, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras has maintained the position of the best engineering institute in the country, while the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru has been ranked as the best overall Indian university in the Framework National Institute Rankings, 2023 Jawaharlal Nehru University of Delhi has taken the second place among the top higher education institutions in India.
Among India’s top-tier Business Schools, Ahmedabad’s Indian Institute of Management ranked highest, while Delhi’s Indian Institute of Technology also found space in the top ten. IIT Delhi has secured the fifth position in the NIRF list of top ten management institutes. IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode took the second and third position.

IIT Delhi is also the second best engineering university in India, according to NIRF, 2023. Kolkata’s Jadavpur University has moved up one spot on the list of best engineering institutes to enter the top ten. Last year it was ranked eleventh.

As for the best universities in India, five out of the top ten are in New Delhi. Miranda College, affiliated with the University of Delhi, tops the list. Two of Chennai’s universities, Presidency and Loyola, are in the top ten. St. Xavier’s College of West Bengal and Ramkrishna Mission Vidyamandir, Howrah are also on the list.

IISc Bengaluru has been ranked as the best institution for research. In terms of innovation, IIT Kanpur has risen to the top.

National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad, ranks first among the pharmacy institutes and Jamia Hamdard and Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani rank second and third respectively.
India University National School of Law, Bengaluru is the best institute in India for law studies. The National Law University of Delhi and the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research rank second and third in the ranking.
The National Institutional Classification Framework was launched in September 2015. “This framework describes a methodology for classifying institutions across the country. The methodology is based on the broad understanding of general recommendations reached by a Central Committee established by MHRD, to identify general parameters for ranking various universities and institutions,” states the official NIRF website.
