A Norwegian cruise ship lost power when a “rogue wave” broke the bridge windows while it was sailing in the North Sea with 266 passengers on board on Thursday.
The cruise ship Maud, which was headed to England, lost its ability to sail after the electricity was cut, the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Center said, according to Reuters.
The strong winds broke the ship’s bridge windows, causing the water to flood.
A “temporary loss of power” occurred after Maud was hit by a “rogue wave,” the owner of the HK ship told The Post in a statement.

The ship, which also had 131 crew members, was sailing from Floroe in Norway to Tilbury in the United Kingdom, a spokesman for the center said.
A spokesman for Denmark’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center said “the situation is under control” and that the ship is being steered manually from the engine room, although it cannot sail.
Authorities plan to tow the ship to a Danish port at around 10:30 p.m. local time abroad.
The cruise company said “no serious injuries to passengers or crew were reported” due to the incident and that the ship’s condition is “stable.”
“In line with our robust operational protocols, in addition to ensuring the well-being of everyone on board, the crew immediately conducted extensive safety checks and technical assessments,” HX said.
“More evaluations are now being carried out to continue sailing. “The ship is in direct contact with the relevant maritime authorities and shore support teams.”
HX is a unit of the Norwegian group Hurtigruten.
