Having narrowly escaped a tragic fate, Laxmi Das Sarkar experienced a stroke of luck when she decided to cancel her planned trip aboard the ill-fated Coromandel Express on June 2.
However, defying the odds, Sarkar was boarding the same train in his first run after the accident.
In a sincere expression of gratitude, he attributed his lucky escape to a small copper idol of ‘Laddu Gopal’, another name for Lord Krishna, whom he took with him on the journey.
In an interview with India Today, Sarkar expressed her heartfelt thanks to Laddu Gopal for the divine intervention that saved her from the devastating triple train accident in Odisha’s Balasore on June 2.
Howrah resident Laxmi Das Sarkar had plans to board the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express on June 2 to visit her daughter who works in the city. However, due to a sudden office commitment by her daughter, she had to cancel her trip.

When asked about concerns regarding the recent tragic accident involving the same train, Sarkar expressed his unwavering faith in his partner, Laddu Gopal, stating: “I am not afraid of anything as I have Laddu Gopal with me.”
The accident, which has claimed the lives of 288 people and injured 1,100, occurred when the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express collided with a parked freight train, causing the rear carriage of the Coromandel Express to derail onto another track.
These coaches then collided with the rear bogies of the Bangalore-Howrah Superfast Express, which was traveling in the opposite direction on that track.
This incident is a powerful reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the extraordinary ways in which fate can intervene.
