Your block is now illuminated.
An Oklahoma man brightened up his street for the Christmas season, decorating several of his homes with lights out of the kindness of his heart.
Last year, Stephen Dunkelberg started the tradition of putting up Christmas lights on his neighbors’ houses on his block in Bixby, Oklahoma.
Before starting the project, only two other houses on the street had lights on, so he set out to change that.
“Every time I walked down my street, I noticed my house, which is one of the first houses, and it was all lit up, and then the rest of the street was pretty dark,” Dunkelberg, 31, told The Post. .
“A couple of them just did something [lights] in the bushes and things like that. And I mentally imagined if every house had Christmas lights, how cool that would be. And I started talking to the neighbors and they all thought it was a good idea too.”
This year, the Good Samaritan decorated 22 homes, including his own, on his street, Stadium Road, with custom lights that he hung for free.

In the past, Dunkelberg owned a landscaping business, so he had plenty of extra lights to spare.
“Oklahoma doesn’t get a lot of snow, so our winter job is Christmas lights,” he said. “So I had a bunch of extra lights that I knew I wasn’t going to use last season.”
Dunkelberg, who now works full time as an accountant at an oil and gas company in Tulsa, worked on the project, which involved more than 2,100 light bulbs, over two weekends.

“It took me four full days,” he said.
As he trimmed, neighbors, some of whom he had never met, would stop, chat with him, and bring him supplies.
“Some of them I had never spoken to before, others I had a little chat with,” he said. “I’ve definitely gotten to know everyone a lot better by doing this.”

Last year, two houses missed the festivities, but this year they were decorated.
“There was an empty house and a person who I couldn’t reach because he was out of town,” he said. “But since then, the empty house filled up and I talked to the person who was out of town and he told me that he was okay with it.”
He plans to keep the tradition going and said he enjoys seeing the fruits of his labor color his neighborhood with Christmas cheer.
“As long as I feel comfortable climbing ladders and roofs, I’ll be up there doing it,” he said. “It really doesn’t get old, every day I walk down the street, I enjoy seeing it every time.”
