On August 22, 2022, Olivia Pratt-Korbel, a nine-year-old girl, was shot by a masked gunman in Liverpool, England, and was pronounced dead the same day at the city’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The attack occurred at the door of the family’s home. At around 10am on August 22, 2022, Pratt-Korbel’s mother heard a disturbance outside her family’s home in Dovecot City. She opened the door and Olivia was standing behind her. Joseph Nee, 35, was the person he was about to shoot the target at. He tried to break into his house. As Nee tried to enter the house, the gunman wearing a black jacket approached the house and fired four shots. One of the bullets went through Cheryl’s wrist and into Pratt-Korbel’s chest.

Nee, the intended target of the attack, was a convicted drug dealer and robber. He had been released on license in 2021, halfway through his sentence. His brothers were in the house upstairs during the attack. Olivia was later pronounced dead at Liverpool Children’s Hospital. Nee, as expected by the police, escaped in a black Audi car but, unfortunately, he was arrested for violating the conditions of his license and returned to prison.

During the investigation, on August 30, 2022, two men were released. On September 1, the police released CCTV footage of the gunman. On September 4, 2022, a man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and two others were waiting to help a criminal. On September 7, the suspects were released on bail, while another man was arrested the following day. A ninth man was arrested on September 10, 2022.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson described the murder as a tragic incident and further stated that they will help when necessary. His manager, Frank Lampard, encouraged people to tell police if they had any information about the attack. The entire city of Liverpool paid tribute to Olivia during her match. The two teams featured also paid tribute to him in the ninth minute of the game.
