An Australian zoo orangutan horrified visitors when he brutally evicted a possum by “throwing” it from the top of his enclosure after the cunning pest had invaded his space.
A viral video shows the creature launching into the air and disappearing from view after being thrown from a tall metal tower at Perth Zoo on Australia’s west coast.
Several people can be heard screaming in the background, with one exclaiming, “Oh my God!”
The primate then emerges from the enclosure, as if to check where the possum had landed in the air.
When asked what happened to the unfortunate marsupial, a Perth Zoo official told Yahoo! News Australia: “I guess he didn’t survive the fall. Obviously we are saddened by the loss of any living being, but also by the loss of nature.”
The person who shared the recording of the possum’s launch on Reddit talked about what preceded the epic launch, saying that at first the orangutan was “throwing the possum to the ground.”

The huge ape then chased the much smaller animal up the pole and “started poking it with a stick.”
According to the Reddit user, the opossum eventually landed in another exhibit occupied by two orangutans.
The zoo official tried to downplay the incident, telling the news outlet that while the zoo has a pest control program, “sometimes local wildlife manages to sneak in,” requiring the animals to take the matter in his own hands.

“The habitat of orangutans is an outdoor environment, and it is known that opossums, which also live at altitude, like orangutans, inhabit surface territories,” the official explained.
“While every effort is made to trap and remove them, the high altitude presents some challenges and the orangutans sometimes dislodge the occasional possum themselves.”
Responses to the viral video have been mixed, with some Reddit commenters praising the orangutan, while others siding with the unfortunate opossum.

“I know the tenants are having a hard time paying their rent… but this eviction is a little harsh,” wrote one Internet wit, while another opined that the violent eviction “was personal.”
A third posted: “Damn, that was like an Olympic level discus throw.”
Someone else, however, thought of the furry little mammal and wrote: “Oh, poor possum.”
