A helicopter pilot died after the helicopter suddenly crashed into a canal in New Jersey on Thursday afternoon, according to a report.
The single-engine Robinson R22 helicopter crashed into the water after leaving Princeton Airport around 3:25 p.m., local police and the Federal Aviation Administration reported, according to Fox NY.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, died despite rescue efforts.
“The pilot suffered serious injuries and life-saving efforts were not possible,” Ryan Jim Ryan, deputy chief of the South Brunswick Police Department, told reporters Thursday night at a news conference near the crash site. , NJ.com reported.

The helicopter was found at the location submerged in approximately 3 feet of water. Lifeguards pulled the pilot out of the water to shore, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing the plane fly erratically before hitting the ground.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board, the FAA told The Post in a statement.
