Police body cam video shows a woman slashing a Las Vegas officer over the head before she is shot dead

A woman who was killed by Las Vegas police last week while investigating a domestic assault complaint slashed an officer over the head before another officer shot her, according to body camera video broadcast for reporters Monday.

Sandra López-Ochoa, 25, brandished a kitchen knife in an overhead motion to strike the officer as he began to pull her by the wrist from a sofa seat in an East Las Vegas apartment , according to the video and a description from the wizard. Clark County Sheriff Sasha Larkin.

Officer Rudy Sacba fired five shots from his 9mm pistol, killing López-Ochoa, Larkin said.

Body camera video of the wounded officer showed blood dripping from his eyebrow after the shooting.

The officer’s name was not released.

“Hey, are you okay?” Sacba asks him.

“Yes,” the officer replies. His camera shows blood on a blue surgical glove on his hand.

Larkin characterized the officer’s injury as “definitely more than superficial,” but said he was treated at a hospital, was recovering at home and is expected to be able to return to active police duty.

Sacba, 32, a police officer since 2021, is on paid leave pending department and district attorney investigations into the shooting.

Larkin said Lopez-Ochoa and her brother, whose name was not provided, called police around 1 a.m. Friday.

The brother told police that López-Ochoa tried to strangle him. López-Ochoa, sitting on the sofa, tells the officers that her brother attacked her.
