Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots continue to rise to a combined total of $648 million

Powerball and Mega Millions lottery jackpots have reached a combined $648 million and continue to rise after recent drawings yielded no winners.

The Powerball jackpot reached its current level (an estimated $340 million) after its most recent drawing Wednesday night yielded no grand prize winners. The annuity option, which is also available for Mega Millions, represents annual payments over three decades.

It was worth $156.5 million in single cash value as of Friday, according to the lottery.

Wednesday’s Powerball drawing yielded four Match 5 winners and one Match 5 + Power Play.

For Mega Millions, the annualized jackpot was estimated at $308 million. The cash option is $142.1 million.

A Mega Millions player in New Jersey won a smaller but still sizable windfall Tuesday, although no one won the big prize. That person won $1 million by winning Match 5, according to the lottery website.

The Powerball jackpot has seen an increase of $18 million from earlier in the week. Meanwhile, Mega Millions saw a slightly larger increase of $19 million.

Lottery grand prizes total a combined $286.1 million in lump sum.

Mega Millions players will have another chance to win the prize on Friday.

Mega Millions and Powerball have also seen their respective grand prizes surpass the billion-dollar mark. More recently, in mid-October, someone in Southern California received a ticket with numbers that matched those drawn by the latter for a $1.765 million jackpot, giving him a huge windfall, according to Powerball.

In August, a player won the $1.602 million Mega Millions jackpot. That grand prize, won in Florida, was claimed in late September.
