Powerball jackpot rises to $725 million after 27 consecutive drawings without a winner

The Powerball jackpot continues to rise after no ticket matched all six numbers Wednesday night to claim the $672 million grand prize.

The huge jackpot is now estimated at $725 million, with a one-time cash option of $345.7 million, ahead of Saturday night’s drawing.

It is the eighth largest prize offered in the history of the game.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 16, 27, 59, 62 and 63 with a red Powerball number of 23. The Power Play option was 3X.

According to the game, the chance of winning the grand prize is 1 in 292.2 million.

Some lucky winners claimed a tidy amount of cash after matching the five white numbers drawn on Wednesday, the game announced.

One player in Georgia won $1 million while two players (another in Georgia and one in Texas) selected the Power Play option to win $2 million.

The largest Powerball jackpot of 2023, and the third in the game’s history, was won in July by a lucky player in California, who walked away with the $1.08 billion prize, the lottery said.

The jackpot has been up for grabs in 27 consecutive drawings since July’s victory.

Behind that was a $754.6 million grand prize won by a player in Washington in February, which is considered the sixth-largest prize ever awarded to the game.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

The game says that more than half of the profits from ticket sales remain in the jurisdiction where they were sold.
