Pregnant woman and 2 children die from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning in a caravan

A pregnant Kansas woman and her two young children were found dead of apparent carbon monoxide poisoning inside their camper at a motocross track.

McPherson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Saturday to a call at Inman Motocross, where the Kansas Motocross Championship Series was taking place.

“Members of the Inman Fire Department and McPherson EMS arrived on scene and confirmed that all three people were deceased,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The three victims were identified by their family as Felicia Richey, who was pregnant, and her children Tison and Bentley, KCRG reported.

The children’s ages were not immediately available.

They are survived by their husband and father Jason Richey, a professional motocross racer, and a 3-year-old son and brother, according to the outlet.

“Today we received word that our dear family friend Jason Richey suddenly lost his wife and two children to carbon monoxide poisoning this morning,” read a GoFundMe account created by a loved one.

“Jason and Felicia were also expecting a new little one. “We ask for your prayers, support and love as he and his 3-year-old son go through this devastating time,” he added.

Jason was interviewed in 2019 by KSN-TV when he lost all of his equipment in a fire.

Following news of Saturday’s tragedy, Inman Motocross Inc. delayed the eighth round of the Kansas Motocross Championship Series, which it hosted, the Kansas City Star reported.

“Today we hug our loved ones tighter and say I love you one more time,” Inman Motocross said on Facebook. “Our hearts go out to the family as they get through this time. Thank you all for your understanding at this time and patience.”

As of Tuesday morning, the GoFundMe page had raised more than $40,000 for the affected family.

The deaths remain under investigation.
