Prince Harry may get “a text or an email” from his brother Prince William on his birthday, but that’s all he’ll get, according to King Charles’ former butler.
Grant Harrold, who worked for the monarch for seven years when he was Prince of Wales, says William could contact his estranged brother “like an olive branch” when he turns 39 on September 15.
But the heir to the throne will probably do no more than that because “the damage has already been done” among the once close sons of King Carlos III.
“If they chat on WhatsApp, you might get a text message or an email,” Harrold said. “I hope they get closer. “I’d like to think William would pick up the phone to wish him a happy birthday.”
“But you never know. We’ll probably never know. It would be the opportunity for his father to reach out and offer him an olive branch,” he told Slingo, adding that it is “the perfect time for them to sign up.”
“I would hope Harry would do the same for them on their birthdays,” he added.

“I think the damage has been done and I think right now I don’t see that changing dramatically.”
While Harry’s plans for the big day are unknown, Harrold hopes it will be “very different to how it would be celebrated if he were a working royal.”
As for a public birthday tribute, the former royal butler believes it is a stretch to expect that.

“Well, it was just Meghan’s birthday and the royal family didn’t mention it at all,” she said, referring to the royal family’s radio silence on Meghan’s 42nd birthday on August 4.
“It’s a bit strange. Even though they are no longer royals, they always had mentions on social media and suddenly everything stopped. It could be similar for Harry’s birthday too.”
On the other hand, Harrold believes Harry will undoubtedly “feel sad,” especially as the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death approaches.
“Family will be at the forefront of Harry’s mind,” Harrold said, adding that “there will be a part of him thinking about everything that’s happened” over the past year.
“Family has always been something very important to Harry. William and Kate are also now at Balmoral with Charles, and Harry used to go there every summer. That will play a big role in what he’s thinking. He will be missing out,” he added.
