He is suspected of being an accessory to a scam in which hundreds of Nepalis were swindled out of Rs. 500,000 and Rs. $5,000,000 with a promise to send and relocate them to foreign nations like the US under the guise of Bhutanese refugees. According to SSP Dan Bahadur Malla, “We were able to arrest the defendant on the basis of a notice.”

He added that Rayamajhi was staying at a relative’s house in Pasikot, Budhanilkantha, after arriving in Kathmandu yesterday. Rayamajhi had contacted IGP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, the chief of the Nepal Police, and asked him once again not to arrest him as he would voluntarily go to the police to give testimony. The next day, Rayamajhi told the police chief that he would be available and an arrest was not required, according to CPN UML president KP Sharma Oli.
