Adopted by Kristine and Michael Barnett in 2010, Natalia, initially believed to be a six-year-old girl, was later discovered to be a 22-year-old woman with a form of dwarfism.
The heartwarming adoption journey took an unexpected turn when the couple observed unusual behavior in Natalia, who was diagnosed with spondyloepiphyseal dwarfism.
Despite the initial belief that she was a little girl, Natalia showed signs of adolescence, such as menstruation, permanent teeth, and pubic hair.
The disturbing narrative is revealed in the documentary Investigation Discovery, where Kristine and Michael share their harrowing experiences raising someone they now label a sociopath.
The breaking point came when Natalia allegedly threatened them with a knife and engaged in disturbing activities, including tampering with Kristine’s coffee.
In 2013, the family moved to Canada, leaving Natalia in her own apartment. The subsequent divorce led to charges of negligence, Michael was found not guilty, and Kristine’s case was dismissed.
The upcoming docuseries promises a different perspective, with Natalia addressing viewers in a trailer and stating: “In every lie there is a hidden truth, but you have to investigate enough to see it. This is my version of the story. Do I look like a monster to you?
The trailer offers a glimpse into the intense confrontation between Natalia and Michael, where she vehemently denies the accusations. ““I was never in your room with a knife.” she states, while Michael stands his ground and says: “I know what I saw.”
