After enjoying mansaf, the country’s national dish, patrons of a restaurant in Jordan’s capital Amman can take a nap in air-conditioned rooms. Due to its high fat content, this delicious dessert is believed to promote considerable tiredness, especially in hot weather.
The dish is reportedly so tiring that people prefer to eat it at home so they can take a short nap afterwards. But this restaurant has stepped in to address the problem.

To address this problem, the Moab restaurant has devised a novel method to help diners overcome post-mansaf fatigue. Now they have beds for customers to sleep in after eating their typical Levantine mansaf.
The restaurant is named after the ancient Kingdom of Moab in the southern Jordanian city of Karak, and serves only mansaf. Now This News uploaded a video of the restaurant on Twitter showing customers napping in various areas.
The video also shows employees hard at work preparing the dish and customers savoring its flavors. A customer can be seen remarking on the heaviness of the food, pointing out that if one doesn’t feel tired after eating mansaf, something is wrong.
The concept started as a joke.
Musab Mubeideen, the son of the restaurant owner, told Arab News that the concept of putting mattresses in the restaurant started as a joke to symbolize the sleepy experience after a high-fat mansaf lunch.
Mansaf, he continued, “is a fat-laden meal cooked with mutton, rice and jameed (ghee), and these ingredients combined are just a recipe for sleepiness and utter exhaustion.”
Mubeideen told the news source that the sleeping option was inspired by a customer who jokingly commented, “Why don’t they put beds in the restaurant?”
Following feedback from other diners experiencing post-mansaf exhaustion, the restaurant took the idea to heart and developed a dedicated bedroom section.
The best thing is that they have transformed these bedrooms into a mini paradise. It is air conditioned, so you won’t be sweating while you sleep. It’s also relatively quiet, making it ideal for a nice nap.
To accompany your relaxation after meals, you can have a traditional Jordanian coffee. Mansaf, which translates as ‘a large dish’, holds a special place in Jordanian culture as the country’s national dish.
It is often made with tender lamb in a fermented dried yoghurt sauce and served with rice or bulgar. The Jordanian version puts a twist on it by placing the bread at the bottom of the tray.
