Republican Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds appears to have been using an obscure X account to praise Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and express her displeasure with former President Donald Trump, according to a report.
The account – @Kimberl26890376 – had “Kimberly Reynolds” as a username and a photo of the Iowa governor as a profile photo before it was suspended on Thursday, shortly after the New York Times reported on its existence.
The account had just 259 followers before it was deleted and did not link to Reynolds’ official @IAGovernor account or her personal @KimReynoldsIA account.
He made no reference in any posted tweet that the user was apparently the governor of the Hawkeye State.
Reynolds’ office did not respond to the Post’s request for comment.
The account’s username is “Kim Reynolds” and it has a photo of the governor as its profile image. AP
Most of the 58 posts from the @Kimberl26890376 account came in recent months, according to the Times, and are overwhelmingly related to the Republican presidential primaries.
In one post, Reynolds appears to have used his secret account to retweet a meme from a DeSantis supporter showing a side-by-side photo of the Florida governor smiling with his wife and three children next to one of Trump surrounded by young women in a New Year’s Eve party.
“The contrast is overwhelming…” says the meme caption.
Reynolds endorsed DeSantis for president last November. The account only had 259 followers.
In another retweet, Reynolds appears to have shared a post accusing Trump of “having no loyalty” but demanding it “from everyone else.”
“That’s loyalty. Which makes sense because these people want a king,” the post continues.
The account also went after former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who is polling tied with DeSantis in Iowa, according to a RealClearPolitics poll average.
“Meet the liberal Democrat who is actively auditioning to be Trump’s vice presidential running mate,” reads a tweet from the DeSantis campaign, referring to Haley and retweeted by @Kimberl26890376.
The account @Kimberl26890376 also tweeted words of support directed at DeSantis.
“The promises made were 100% fulfilled!!” says one post.
“Leader!” another post simply says.
Last November, Reynolds broke with tradition and endorsed DeSantis for president before the Iowa caucuses, citing “unprecedented times.”
Iowa governors have typically remained neutral in presidential elections until after the caucuses.
The Hawkeye State will hold its first caucuses in the country on January 15.
