Paul and Dawn met on a blind date when they were 14 and 16, respectively, and that’s when their love story began, according to Ladbible. After half a century, the couple was celebrating their golden anniversary at Hickory’s Smokehouse in Southport.

A few weeks later, the couple decided to have a lavish celebration with friends and family after enjoying a quiet dinner together. It seemed like Hickory’s Smokehouse was the ideal place for your pre-celebration dinner.

Why was the couple’s celebration dinner free?

In addition to a friendly greeting, the couple received a homemade sign addressed specifically to them when they arrived. Paul and Dawn’s celebration took an unexpected turn when they started talking to James, their waiter.

The couple spoke about their recent difficult health fight against terminal cancer while reflecting on their 50 years of marriage. The couple was about to pay the bill as the evening came to an end when they received a pleasant and surprising surprise.

The handwritten message accompanying the £80 (Rs 8,437.58) note read: “Happy anniversary, the bill is on us.”

How did the couple react to the unexpected kindness?

Paul and Dawn were baffled by what they saw and had to ask James, the assistant general manager, if that was really what they were seeing.

“I just saw the look on my wife’s face from across the table and thought, ‘Have they made a mistake?'” Paul said in response to the Liverpool Echo. “She basically started crying. We were shocked.”

The couple was so touched by the amazing act of generosity from the staff at Hickory’s Smokehouse that they burst into tears of gratitude.

James, who had only been at the Southport branch for six weeks, said he had been very touched by Paul and Dawn’s story, particularly Paul’s ongoing struggle with his health problems.

James decided to pay for their anniversary celebration because he was moved by their tenacity and affection for each other.
