Richard Bilkszto was an educator and also a discrimination advocate at the TDSB. he passed away last week. He left a legacy of championing public education. He was a very experienced person. He was an educator for the past 24 years. he was living a very happy life but unfortunately his life took a very intense and negative turn. he faced a lot of bullying during a diversity, inclusion and equity training session for TDBS management in 2021. During the season, Richard Bilkszto questioned his view that Canada was more racist than the United States. Bilkszto said that Canada has imperfections, but he also stressed a commitment to providing opportunities. So in response, they started bullying him and were giving him very mean comments. They all started making racist comments against white supremacy and started humiliating Bilkszto. He began to feel very bad because he always talked about anti-discrimination and equality. Richard began to feel very bad after becoming discouraged. He couldn’t control his emotions. He began to face a mental health crisis. When Bilkszto returned to work, the TDSB refused to put him in his old position and canceled the employment contract he had been given for the following year. To make matters worse, the board barred him from attending a graduation ceremony, further marginalizing a committed educator he had given his community over the years. Bilkszto, having exhausted all other options, sued the TDSB management in an effort to hold them accountable and bring justice. He carried a heavy burden from the 2021 tragedy, a condition of misery that eventually destroyed him. May his soul rest in peace and may justice be done.
