Sam Altman returns as CEO of OpenAI after impeachment attempt

After a tumultuous few days, the leadership crisis at artificial intelligence startup OpenAI has come to an end. Sam Altman, who founded OpenAI in 2015, will return as CEO alongside former president Greg Brockman.

In statements, key OpenAI stakeholders, including employees, investors and interim CEO Emmett Shear, expressed support for Altman’s reinstatement. His abrupt firing on Friday sparked a company-wide backlash, with some engineers threatening to resign if the decision was not reversed.

The full reasons behind Altman’s initial dismissal remain unclear, as the board has not provided details publicly. Now that his return is assured, attention will turn to charting a steady course for the increasingly influential AI startup.
