Scam Alert: Bengaluru Woman Loses Rs 25,000 To Impersonator Posing As Food Delivery Agent

A Bengaluru woman recently lost Rs 25,000 to a man who appeared to be an employee of an online food delivery company, several reports suggest. Here’s what we know.

Shilpa Sarnobat, 64, of Bengaluru’s Nagawara neighbourhood, placed an order for lunch on August 6. She did, however, cancel the order a few minutes later. As a result, the food delivery platform slapped cancellation fees on her.

Two days later, on August 8, the woman received a call from an unknown number in the morning. The man on the other end of the queue introduced himself as a customer service representative from the meal delivery platform and insisted on refunding the woman’s cancellation fees.

She trusted him after discussing the food order specifics and downloaded an app and followed his instructions. This is when she handed him her bank account information. To her dismay, she then received a notice claiming that Rs 25,000 had been withdrawn from her account.

She did not receive a response when she called the individual. This was the point at which she was compelled to submit a complaint to the local police station.

Meanwhile, in another example of fraud in Bengaluru, a rickshaw driver was fooled into believing that a woman had transferred money to him. Unfortunately, her claim was backed up by a forged screenshot, which she expertly exhibited. The woman conned the rickshaw driver out of a large quantity of money- Rs 23,500.

According to an india.com report, Shivkumar stated, “Around 9.45 a.m., I was talking to one of my friends who owed me money.” I asked him to pay me near PES College in Hanumanthnagar. While I was on the phone, a woman in her twenties approached me and requested that I drive her to PES College. I immediately agreed because I needed to meet my friend. She inquired if I had PhonePe.”
