Scottish man trapped inside rogue electric car and claims he was ‘kidnapped’ by it

How did the man end up trapped inside a moving electric vehicle?

He said his newly purchased MG ZS EV suddenly stalled at a speed of 30 miles per hour. Morrison claimed he had been “kidnapped” by his electric car and was forced to avoid several red lights and roundabouts.

Circumstances became so critical that police had to intervene to ensure the runaway vehicle was stopped safely. They achieved this by allowing him to carry out a controlled collision with their police van.

Morrison described the harrowing experience as a “catastrophic malfunction” which took place while driving on the A803 towards Kirkintilloch, near Glasgow. Fortunately, the incident occurred during the late evening hours when the roads were relatively deserted, a factor he said played a crucial role in ensuring his safety.

He recounted: “I realized something was wrong as I approached a roundabout and went to slow down, but it didn’t.”

He detected a loud squealing noise that reminded him of problems with the brake pads, although considering the recent purchase of the car, he ruled out the possibility that it was related to brake problems.

“I managed to get around the roundabout at about 30 mph and then I had a long way to go, so I assumed it would stop without me accelerating, but it didn’t,” Morrison recalled the nightmare.

MG Motor UK said it was investigating the matter and trying to resolve it. A spokesperson said: “MG Motor UK has been urgently trying to contact Mr Morrison so our engineering team can fully inspect his vehicle. We take this matter very seriously and now that contact has been made, we are doing everything we can to resolve it quickly and completely.
