A Seattle bus collided with a car and mounted a sidewalk, struck a pedestrian and crashed into a brick building Saturday afternoon in a chain reaction that left one dead and a dozen injured.
The crash in Belltown at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Battery Street killed the pedestrian and left the driver of a red sedan in critical condition, Seattle police said.
The sedan was heading south on Fifth Avenue when it collided with the public bus traveling east on Battery Street just before 3:30 p.m., according to police.

The driver of the sedan was pulled from the accident through the jaws of life and rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
He is also being evaluated for any signs of impairment by a drug recognition expert, Seattle police said.
The bus driver and 10 passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Seattle firefighters assessed the building the bus entered and concluded there was no major structural damage or threat.
The Seattle Police Traffic Collision Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
