Sharad Yadav Personal and family life
During colonial rule, Sharad was born in Babai, Central Provinces and Berar, British India, on July 1, 1947. Presently, he is located in Makhan Nagar in the Narmadapuram district of Madhya Pradesh. He was born into a farming family of Nand Kishore Yadav and Sumitra Yadav. He also has 6 siblings, including 5 brothers and a sister.
After completing her studies and entering Indian politics, she married Dr. Rekha Yadav on February 15, 1989. Together, the couple had two children, a daughter, Suhasini Raj Rao, and a son, Shantanu Bundela. While her daughter is associated with the Indian National Congress, her son has a postgraduate degree from the University of London and has yet to join Indian Politics.

In addition to being a politician, Sharad is also an engineer, farmer and educator by profession. Immediately after completing secondary school, he received a Bachelor of Science from Robertson College, Jabalpur. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Jabalpur Engineering College.
Sharad Yadav’s political career
Inspired by the thoughts of social reformer and socialist leader Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sharad entered politics during school. He joined Bharatiya Lok Dal and was active in popular movements in Madhya Pradesh. But it was in 1974 that he won a by-vote in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and became a member of the Lok Sabha Parliament for the first time. He too was re-elected to the same position in 1977.
In 1979, when the Janata Party split, it became part of the faction led by Charan Singh which later became Lok Dal. In 1981, he was the losing Lok Dal candidate in Amethi, where he won Rajiv Gandhi. He lost the election again in 1984 as a candidate for the Lok Dal of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. In 1989 he won the same place as the Janata Dal member.
Four times in 1991, 1996, 1999 and 2009, he won in the Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar. There he also lost in 1998, 2004, 2014 and 2019 respectively.
From 2003 to 2016, he was also the chairman of Janata Dal (United), but was ousted after being accused of anti-party activities. He too was indicted in the Hawala scandal, but was later cleared of all charges by the Supreme Court of India.
Sharad Yadav Loktantrik Janata Dal
Yadav has always been a non-supporter of the Bhartiya Janta Party due to ideological differences. So when Janata Dal (United) decided to form an alliance with the BJP in Bihar, the popular leader split from the party.
Subsequently, he formed the Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) with Ali Anwar in May 2018. The Bahujan Mukti Party’s political wing of the All India Backward and Minority Employees Federation (BAMCEF) and the JD(U) unit led by Veerendra Kumar also merged with LJD.
On March 20, 2022, after a successful operation of almost four years, LJD merged with Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD).
Sharad Yadav’s death
On January 12, 2023, the famous Indian politician breathed his last at his residence in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. He was ill for a long time with kidney related problems and was on dialysis.
Sharad collapsed at home and was rushed to Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram. After medical examination and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he was pronounced dead.
Official confirmation in this regard was given by Sharad’s daughter Suhasini on Twitter. Since then, President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi and others, along with Sharad’s admirers, have expressed their condolences.
