Passengers on JetBlue Flight 662 got the shock of their lives when they began preparing to get off the plane and were met with an unprecedented disaster, according to reports. Halfway through the disembarkation process, the plane is said to have tilted backwards and its tail hit the asphalt ground. As his rear end hit the ground, his nose rose into the air.

Where did it happen?

The flight landed as scheduled at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport from Bridgetown, Barbados, at Terminal 5 around 8:30 p.m.

When was this?

The strange incident took place on October 23.

Why did the flight turn back?

In a statement to The chargeexplained JetBlue spokesperson Derek Dombrowski, “Once at the gate, due to a shift in weight and balance during disembarkation, the tail of the plane tilted rearward, causing the nose of the plane to lift and finally came back down.”

Although the chaos of the incident surprised passengers, the spokesperson clarified that no injuries were reported after the accident.

Typically, pilots calculate the weight and balance of an airplane before each flight. This is done to secure the center of gravity of the aircraft and ensure proper performance. This position of the aircraft’s center of gravity is affected by the total weight of passengers and other contents, as well as their distribution.

To balance this weight distribution, passengers are sometimes asked to change seats to ensure proper balance of the plane. However, a plane tilting at the gate is quite rare.

After all passengers returned safely to the ground, videos and images of the interior and exterior of the overturned plane hit the Internet. People trapped in the plane after it tilted recorded the consequences of the rollover.

A TikTok user showed on video how they helped passengers get off the plane. In the clip, the crew is seen slowly guiding passengers to stand in the middle to regain some balance in the flight and prevent it from tilting further.

The user shared that she was sitting “three-quarters of the way back to the plane.” She revealed that the moment the plane tilted backwards and hit the ground, the passengers panicked and screamed, fearing the worst-case scenario. The situation worsened when passengers realized that part of the plane door had broken.

Passengers also heard from the crew that the nose of the plane had apparently risen 10 feet into the air. The user then explained how passengers were guided to strategically exit the plane two rows at a time and even take breaks in between.
