Shocking video captures police officer miraculously surviving when van crashes into vehicle he had stopped

Horrifying dash cam footage captured the moment an Oklahoma police officer was thrown into the air when a vehicle collided with a pickup truck he had stopped, and surprisingly stood up virtually unscathed.

Footage released this week shows Trooper Jesse Gregory standing on the passenger side of a vehicle near the end of a 20-minute stop on Interstate 40 last week.

Suddenly, a black pickup truck crashes into the stopped vehicle he is standing next to, violently throwing him to the ground, apparently upside down.

The struck vehicle is also struck several feet along the edge of the road, as the SUV that struck it rolls several times.

Surprisingly, Gregory rolls and almost immediately gets to his feet, running out of the frame and out of any possible danger.

“Watching the video, I don’t even remember standing up barrel rolling,” Gregory told KWTV, showing how his only injury appeared to be a scratch on his left arm.

“Hopefully this will be the scare of my career,” the police officer said, although he previously witnessed another police officer being seriously injured in a similar accident.

“I’m ready to get back” to work, Gregory said, although he acknowledged that “it’s going to take a little bit of mental time to get back.”

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said it was sharing the images “as a graphic reminder of the consequences of distracted or impaired driving and the importance of the slow and stay still law.”

“We are in the midst of an emphasis on distracted driving right now in honor of Trooper Nicholas Dees, who lost his life in the line of duty after being hit by a distracted driver,” he continued.

“Fortunately, Private Gregory is expected to recover. In fact, all three people involved in this incident were treated and released,” the OHP said, adding that the terrifying incident remains under investigation.

Gregory was at the scene of a similar incident on Jan. 5, when Deputy Jose Tayahua-Mendoza was hit by a car while conducting a traffic stop, Fox News reported.

“Hey, you okay, bro?” he asked the fellow officer.

Gregory told KWTV that Tayahua-Mendoza is his neighbor.

“He was hit in exactly the same situation. “I was less than a mile away from him and I was actually the first one on the scene and asked for help,” he said.

Tayahua-Mendoza survived the accident but is reportedly in a long-term rehabilitation facility.
