Dramatic video captured the moment a Dallas woman, eight months pregnant, was attacked by a pit bull in front of her two terrified young children.
Reyna Gutierrez and her children were arriving home at the Tides at Highland Meadows apartment complex on Amanda Lane around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when the dog lunged at her, WFAA reported.
“I couldn’t do anything,” she told the Spanish media after being surprised by the animal. “I tried to cover myself with my son’s backpack.”
Surveillance footage from the family’s home shows the dog attacking Gutierrez as her 6-year-old daughter jumps on the hood of a car and her 9-year-old son runs toward the house.
A good Samaritan runs to help but the dog attacks him too.
The video then shows a man who appears to be the pit bull’s owner putting a leash on it.

Gutierrez’s husband, Erik Rojas, said neighbors told him the owner took the dog when police arrived, NBC DFW reported.
Gutierrez was treated at a hospital for bites on both arms, police told the outlet. She said she was hospitalized for 24 hours so she could check on her unborn baby.
Gutierrez told WFAA on Wednesday that he is still afraid to venture outside after the horrific attack.

“If it hadn’t been me, what if it had been one of the kids? I can’t stand watching the video. I’m scared,” she said, adding that the man who ran to his aid suffered wounds to his stomach.
Dallas Animal Services workers were at the complex on Wednesday and knocked on several doors looking for the dog’s owner, according to the outlet.
Neighbors said the owner lives in the area but they don’t know who he is.
No arrests have been made amid the ongoing investigation.
“I just want people to be responsible,” Gutiérrez told WFAA. “How can you take your dog off leash knowing he is aggressive?”
