What was the event for?
The event, which reportedly featured approximately 55 types of canines gracefully strolling around the ring with their owners, showing off their beauty and talent, was organized by the club.
The dogs were prepared before the show and then guided through the arena by their owners. According to sources, the campaign attempted to raise awareness about rare local breeds.
What races were there?
According to India.com, the dog show featured Indian breeds like Rajapalayam, Chippiparai, Kanni, Kombai and Caravan Hound as well as foreign breeds like Afghan Hound, Fox Terrier, German Shepherd, Dobermann, St Bernard, Rottweiler, Pug, Golden. Retriever, Min Pin, Bull Dog, French Bull and Bull Mastiff, which captivated the attendees.
“Min Pin” is a common abbreviation for the Miniature Pinscher, which is a small breed of dog. The Miniature Pinscher is often referred to as the “Min Pin” for short.
These dogs are known for their small size, sleek, muscular bodies, and lively, energetic personalities. Miniature Pinschers are often confused with miniature versions of the Doberman Pinscher due to their similar appearance, including their coat colors and markings.
However, they are a distinct breed and have unique characteristics and traits. Other breeds that participated in the contest were also less well-known locals.
How was the event?
When asked about the public’s growing interest in Indian breeds, Raja Rajan, who breeds both native and international dogs, told The Hindu that it is a very positive indicator.
Previously, proving pedigree and obtaining a certificate from the Kennel Club of India (KCI) was only available for foreign breeds, but now that the KCI has accepted Indian breeds, it has proven advantageous.
According to Vinayaga Moorthy, a member of the Madurai Canine Club, the Rhodesian Ridgeback was on display for the first time this year. He went on to say that if the International Cynological Federation (FCI) and the World Dog Organization recognize indigenous breeds, they will be able to compete in international dog shows.
“The process is long,” he said, “as they inspect 75 dogs of the same breed ranging in age from 35 days to 5 years and look for common standard characteristics.” “This becomes a challenge for our native species.”
The show’s judges, Yuji Yatake from Japan and James Stephen Beckett and Carolwyn Beckett from Australia, told the portal that they were amazed by the endurance and fitness of these native Indian breeds. The event attracted spectators and dog enthusiasts from across the state, and many children attended with their families.
