There are snowy reasons to speed up during winter storms.
Chilling dash cam footage captured the moment a driver in upstate New York crashed nearly head-on into a snow plow after trying to pass another truck.
The plow was traveling on a two-lane highway in the North Country region when the truck’s headlights appeared ahead with a black sedan next to it.
The car, which was right in the path of the snow plow, desperately tried to accelerate and overtake the truck, but was unable to gain enough space in the mud and snow on the narrow road.
That’s when the sedan swerved, crashing its side and trunk directly into the snow plow.
Small pieces of headlights and black paint from the trunk can be seen flying through the air.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the terrible accident.
“Note to self: Do not attempt to pass when roads are covered in snow and sleet,” New York Department of Transportation said in X.
An agency spokesperson could not confirm where the crash occurred, but said the video “underscores the need to drive carefully in snowy and icy conditions.”

Upstate New York was hit with snow this week as winter storms engulfed the state.
Snow fell at a rate of 3 inches per hour in some areas, while others battled 15-degree temperatures.
Area-wide winter weather advisories and travel bans were also in effect in anticipation of icy road conditions.
