Millennials are pioneering innovative methods to harness the Internet to generate income. In an ever-evolving digital landscape, this tech-savvy generation is harnessing their creativity and skills online to create new avenues to earn money.
Spotify creators earn around Rs 15 lakh every month by creating long white noise playlists, which include sounds like birds and thunderstorms.
However, according to Bloomberg, Spotify plans to remove these creators from its Ambassador Ads program, which pays podcasters to read ads on its shows, starting in October.
White noise podcasts feature repeated soothing sounds, including thunderstorms, bird calls, and simple static noise.
Spotify users often play them in the background to create a calm atmosphere to meditate, sleep or study.
During an interview with Bloomberg, one creator who left his job to focus on making white noise podcasts full time became emotional.
He explained that he earned $12.25 (approximately Rs 1,018) for every 1,000 listeners, which equated to a monthly income of $18,375 (approximately Rs 15.3 lakh).
However, the future of its revenue is uncertain as it could be affected if Spotify modifies its Ambassador Ads program.
Additionally, Spotify is increasing its eligibility criteria for the advertising program. According to the post, podcasters must now have 1,000 unique Spotify listeners in the last 60 days to qualify, a significant increase from the previous requirement of just 100 awesome listeners.
According to an undisclosed source who spoke to Bloomberg, Spotify felt that its investment in white noise listeners for the Ambassador Ads program did not provide a good return on investment within its marketing budget.
According to estimates in an internal memo Bloomberg obtained earlier this month, Spotify could save $38 million a year if it could persuade listeners to move away from white noise and toward more lucrative content.
