The National Gallery in London houses a portrait by Dutch painter Ferdinand Bol of an eight-year-old boy holding a mug.

However, amused travelers pointed out that the boy appeared to be wearing Nike sneakers. Fiona Foskett, 57, noticed the abnormality when she visited the museum in London with her daughter Holly, 23. Ms Foskett, from the Isle of Wight, said the boy’s slippers “really stood out” and joked that they he was a “time traveler”.

“I was looking at the photo and the sneakers really caught my eye,” she told The Sun. ‘Wait, is he wearing a pair of Nike sneakers?’ I asked my daughter. ‘We couldn’t stop laughing. He is clearly a fashionable young man.

“Given his age, he must have had the first pair of Nike shoes ever created. Is he really a time traveler? The boy in the picture is claimed to be Frederick Sluysken, the son of a wealthy wine merchant and second cousin of the artist Bol’s wife.

“We are delighted that this image has proven to be a favorite with our visitors,” said a representative for the National Gallery.

Nike was founded in 1964

Nike, originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS), was founded on January 25, 1964. It was founded by Bill Bowerman, a track and field coach, and Phil Knight, a middle-distance runner and former student of his, at the University of Oregon.

The main objective of the company was to import and distribute high-quality sports shoes from a Japanese brand called Onitsuka Tiger (now known as ASICS).

They began by selling shoes from the trunk of Knight’s car at various track meets and sporting events. As business grew, BRS opened its first retail store in Santa Monica, California, in 1966.
