“Suitcase killer” Heather Mack received a 26-year sentence behind bars in a Chicago court on Wednesday, nearly a decade after she helped beat her mother to death during a luxury vacation in Bali.
U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly convicted Mack, 28, of conspiring to kill Sheila von Wiese-Mack with her then-boyfriend in 2014 to get their hands on a $1.5 million trust fund.
She had already served seven years in Indonesia after being convicted in 2015 of covering her mother’s mouth to muffle her screams while Tommy Schaefer hit Wiese-Mack with a fruit bowl in a hotel room.
Mack was 18 years old and pregnant with Schaefer’s baby at the time.
Dressed in an orange jumpsuit, orange slip-on shoes and glasses, Mack appeared expressionless as her family gave emotional victim impact statements and called for the maximum sentence, saying Mack has never shown remorse.
He only broke down when it was his turn to speak and told his family that he accepted responsibility for the heinous crime.
“It breaks my heart to hear you cry,” she tearfully told Debbi Curran, her aunt and Wiese-Mack’s sister.

“There is no excuse to try to hurt him. “I miss and love my mother.”
Mack’s attorney estimates she will be imprisoned for approximately 20 years, which represents the credit she was given for the more than two years she spent in custody in Chicago after completing her sentence in Indonesia.
Federal prosecutors had recommended a 28-year prison sentence, while Mack’s attorneys had asked for a 15-year sentence and credit for seven years of the sentence served.
Mack killed his mother Sheila von Wiese-Mack to obtain a $1.5 million trust fund.
“This was a brutal, premeditated crime,” Kennelly said before sentencing Mack. He also ordered her to pay $262,708 in restitution and a $50,000 fine.
“EM. Von Wiese could have been the worst father in the history of humanity. She didn’t deserve to die.”
Mack pleaded guilty in federal court in June for his role in the cold-blooded murder of his mother during a luxury vacation in Bali in 2014.
Mack and her then-boyfriend Tommy Schaefer had planned the murder for months.
Mack pleaded guilty in June to a single count of conspiracy to kill a U.S. citizen.
In August 2014, Mack, who was 18 at the time and pregnant, was on vacation with her then-boyfriend Schaefer and her socialite mother at the luxury St. Regis resort in Bali when the couple attacked Wiese-Mack as part of a twisted plot that had been months in the making. to inherit the $1.5 million trust fund, prosecutors said.
The couple then put the woman’s body in a small suitcase and placed it in the trunk of a taxi.

Mack, who lived with her mother in Oak Park, in the Chicago suburbs, was sentenced to 10 years for being an accessory to murder, but was released early for good behavior in 2021 and quickly deported to the United States.
