Taylor Swift Fans Cause Seismic Activity Equivalent To 2.3 Magnitude Earthquake At Seattle Concert

Return to Taylor Swift’s hit song “Dress” as life imitates art again. At her Eras Tour in Seattle, Swifties danced with such intensity that they created seismic activity comparable to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.

Geology professor Jackie Caplan-Auerbach from Western Washington University made this fascinating discovery at Lumen Field last weekend.

According to Caplan-Auerbach, she collected around 10 hours of data for Taylor Swift’s performance. The rhythm of the music, speakers, and beat influenced the ground’s behavior, causing it to shake due to all the energy.

This reminded her of a previous incident at Lumen Field in 2011 when fans reacted enthusiastically to a touchdown by Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch during a Seattle Seahawks game.

Interestingly, the seismic activity from both events appeared on the same local seismometer, per Caplan-Auerbach’s observations.

“The shaking was twice as strong as ‘Beast Quake,'” she added. “It absolutely doubled it.”

When comparing the Saturday (July 22) show to the Sunday (July 23) show, Caplan-Auerbach found no significant difference in the level of enthusiasm among the Swifties in either crowd. Both groups danced with equal excitement.

The only notable contrast was that the second show began approximately half an hour later than the first show due to some delays.

The remarkable movement at the stadium didn’t go unnoticed by scientists alone. Swift was impressed by the incredible energy she was greeted with, and she later expressed her admiration on Instagram.

“Thank you for everything. All the cheering, screaming, jumping, dancing, singing at the top of your lungs.”

With the conclusion of the Seattle shows, Taylor Swift has only one more state to visit on the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour.

After her performances at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. (two shows) and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. (six shows), Taylor Swift’s tour will continue with several months of international shows.

She will travel through Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Australia and will be supported by Sabrina Carpenter and Paramore during these concerts.

Despite the seismic activity in Seattle, fans at the upcoming Eras Tour venues have high expectations to meet. During her Sunday night performance, Swift reiterated a diary entry she wrote during the 2018 Reputation Tour, proclaiming Seattle, Washington, as the best crowd she has ever played for.
