Teenage pilot killed in plane crash in Australia: “It doesn’t look good”

A teenage pilot has died when the small plane he was piloting crashed in Sydney’s southwest, destroying the plane.

The 16-year-old reportedly lost contact with air traffic control shortly after radioing permission to land about 3pm on Wednesday, near Camden, south-west of Sydney.

Another pilot flying overhead saw the wreckage and reported.

“I think we’ve got a plane on the ground here, Dennis… It doesn’t look good,” the second pilot is heard saying in radio audio obtained by Nine.

“Dude, unfortunately it doesn’t even look like a plane.”

Emergency services were called to Brownlow Hill Loop Rd in Brownlow Hill following reports that a nearby flight school’s Cessna plane had crashed.

The pilot and sole occupant of the plane, believed to be a 16-year-old boy, died at the scene. He has not yet been formally identified.

The Cessna plane, which crashed just five miles from Camden Airport, is believed to belong to a local flight school.

Images taken of the wreckage show that the plane was unrecognizable after the crash.

Police have cordoned off the area where the wrecked plane is located, establishing a crime scene that is being examined by forensics.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
