The apocalypse?: Invasion of black birds unleashes panic in Mexico

Images worthy of a horror movie have generated panic on social networks, capturing miles of black birds invading the sky and areas of the municipality of Texcoco, in the State of Mexico.

The video, which resembles an apocalyptic movie scene, was recorded on December 6 and shared by workers at a chili company located in a depopulated area of the municipality.

In the shocking images, a huge flock of black birds covers the sky before landing on the roofs and a company soccer field.

The visual material was widely disseminated on social networks, triggering alarming theories among Internet users, from omens of the end of the world to fears of a possible attack by birds. Some also pointed out the possible effects of climate change on species as a cause of this phenomenon.

Comparisons with Hitchcock’s classic film, ‘The Birds’, were inevitable, given that in the 1963 film, hundreds of birds invaded and attacked an American town.

Although some unfounded theories circulated online, according to reports from El País, these sightings usually correspond to migrations of birds seeking shelter and food in cities during certain seasons.

On the other hand, according to reports from local media such as Excelsior, it is speculated that the unusual flock of black birds in the State of Mexico could be due to the birds’ disorientation, losing their way towards what was supposed to be their new habitat.
