Where was the incident reported?
This incident of medical negligence occurred at the local health center in Mauda Tehsil on November 3.
Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi was responsible for performing family planning surgeries (vasectomies) on eight women that day.
What did the doctor do?
After completing surgeries on four women and administering anesthesia to the others, Dr. Bhalavi surprisingly asked the hospital staff for a cup of tea.
After his simple request for tea was ignored, he unexpectedly left the operating room, leaving the remaining scheduled surgeries unfinished.
In view of the doctor’s sudden departure, the hospital administration contacted the district doctor. Another doctor was then sent to complete the surgeries for the patients who were under anesthesia.
Nagpur Zilla Parishad CEO Soumya Sharma expressed concern and shock over the incident.
He mentioned the formation of a three-member committee to investigate the case thoroughly. The committee’s findings will determine appropriate action against Dr. Bhalavi.
Soumya Sharma shared the details of the incident with NDTV over phone, stating that a Panchayat Samiti member provided the information.
“I was informed that Dr. Bhalavi abandoned the operation because he did not receive tea. This incident is a matter of utmost seriousness. If doctors are willing to abandon such critical procedures over a simple cup of tea, they should be held liable under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code.” Sharma informed NDTV.
The district administration quickly ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. A three-member committee is currently conducting the investigation.
