King Charles III will spend the day at the Royal Family residence at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on the first anniversary of his coronation.
The King will commemorate the event there “silently and privately”, remembering his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died a year ago. Charles succeeded to the throne immediately after his mother, Queen Elizabeth, died on September 8, 2022, aged 96.
On May 6, 2023, he received his formal crown during his coronation. The new King of the United Kingdom faced the following major events during his first year in office:

A look back at Charles III’s greatest moments from last year
On Friday Carlos III will celebrate one year as monarch. Here are five major events from the previous 12 months:
1. The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away and the new king has led the nation in mourning for its longest-reigning monarch. On Monday, September 19, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II received a state funeral.
A state funeral is a large-scale memorial service attended by the nation in honor of a notable person. The Queen’s coffin was carried in procession from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey in London during the ceremony.
The King and other members of the Royal Family walked behind his mother’s coffin during the ceremony. The King stated that he had been “moved beyond measure” by global support for him.
“Over the past ten days, we have been deeply touched by the many messages of condolence and support we have received from this nation and around the world,” he said.
2. It’s coronation day
The coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla occurred on May 6, 2023, during a special event.
The historic service was attended by more than 2,000 people from 203 different countries, including politicians and celebrities.
Unlike previous coronations of kings and queens, this one showcased a more multicultural and multi-religious Britain that the King called a “community of communities”.
The King and Queen said they were “deeply grateful” to all the supporters across the UK.
3. Protests occur against the monarchy
At royal ceremonies such as the coronation of the king and the burial of Queen Elizabeth II, protests against the monarchy have become a much more frequent and notable feature of the festivities.
There were even people arrested as a result of such protests.
YouGov polled adults about their attitudes and the results revealed that 62% of those polled still support the monarchy in Britain.
Only 30% of 18-24 year olds believe the monarchy is “good for Britain”, indicating growing resistance among the very young.
4. An official state visit to Germany
Charles III served as King and Head of State of the United Kingdom. A head of state is a person who represents or personifies a nation. They may be a president in a republic, but a king or queen in the United Kingdom, where there is a monarchy.
During a formal visit to Germany in his first year as king, Charles became the first British monarch to address the German parliament.
The King spoke of the historical links between the UK and Germany and said it was an honor to be there.
The King expressed his joy at the relationship between the United Kingdom and Germany, saying that it “barely begins to express the pride I feel” and wished to “renew the commitment to friendship between our nations.”
5. The book written by Prince Harry
In January, Prince Harry published a book detailing his strained relationships with his family, particularly his brother, Prince William, and his father, King Charles. This was another difficult time for the royal family.
The book Spare is an autobiography, meaning it tells the narrative of a person’s life from their point of view and was written by them.
In 1997, a car accident in Paris claimed the life of Harry and William’s mother.
Harry said in his book that he and William begged their father not to marry Camilla, queen and wife of King Charles III, for fear that she would become his “wicked stepmother.”
On the contrary, Harry claimed that if she could please their father, King Charles, he and his brother would be willing to forgive her in “their hearts”.
Next step for King Charles?
According to royal analysts, one of the king’s biggest concerns is making himself seem relatable because he was born into a life of luxury and privilege and is currently the monarch when many people are struggling due to the cost of living crisis.
The King has long spoken passionately about the environment and sustainability, despite his inability to comment publicly on political issues.
She is expected to work on a major food project to be unveiled in the fall that will encourage people to reduce food waste and discover ways to access higher quality food at more reasonable prices.
