Kelsey Russell, a 23-year-old Columbia graduate student, brings a ray of hope in these bleak times. Russel is trying to revive the dying state of print media among true Internet natives who are too familiar with flashy headlines on social media posts than with what’s really happening in the world.
While reading a copy of New York Magazine, Russel said in a video: “I’m just your media-literate hottie who will help you decide which print media you want to invest in.”

Recently, Russell started a TikTok series in which he documents his daily discoveries while reading the physical edition of The New York Times. As a special request for his 23rd birthday, he asked his family for a subscription, and his inaugural video of the series delved into his ideas from the Sunday edition of the newspaper.
Russell’s enthusiastic and direct news summaries have gained significant traction, with certain videos racking up thousands, and even millions, of views.
