The last image of runner Samantha Murphy, missing for four days in the Canadian state forest, has been published

The last known image of a Victorian mother has been released by police in their desperate search for the jogger who disappeared four days ago.

Samantha Murphy, 51, left her home on Eureka St in Ballarat East about 7am on Sunday but did not return, sparking concern for her well-being as temperatures soared to 36C (96.8C). F) throughout the area.

The three-second clip shows Murphy at 7:16 a.m. on Eureka Street running northeast.

She had told her husband that she would go for a regular 12-mile (20-kilometer) run in the Canadian state forest, but he has not been seen since.

About 12.30pm on Wednesday, a team searching a walking trail in nearby bushland in Woowookarung Regional Park found an “item of interest”, but police have since ruled it out.

“Items located today during the search for Samantha have been assessed and at this time are not believed to be related to her whereabouts,” police said in a statement.

Murphy’s husband, Michael Murphy, arrived at the state forest’s dirt road entrance before speaking with police shortly after the items were found.

Mr. Murphy did not appear to abandon his vehicle and was only at the scene for a short time before leaving.

“That’s the biggest concern, that there are mine shafts that are not very visible in some areas,” he told Nine.

Murphy’s husband told the Herald Sun his wife runs around the area every day, but said he became worried as time went on.

“It’s just up in the air, we don’t know,” he said.

A major search operation is entering its fourth day, involving local police, officers from the Dog Squad, the Mounted Branch and the Air Wing.

Staff from the State Emergency Service, Victorian Bushfire Management and Parks Victoria are also involved in the search.

Police and his family are concerned for his well-being due to the heat on Sunday as his disappearance is “out of the ordinary”.

“Obviously yesterday was a hot day… there’s obviously an increased risk there because of the heat,” Acting Inspector Lisa McDougall said Monday.
