The elderly mother of Spanish soccer federation president Luis Rubiales, who had gone on hunger strike to protest his suspension over his World Cup kissing scandal, has been hospitalized, a local priest said.
Ángeles Béjar was transferred Wednesday night to the Santa Ana Hospital in Motril after feeling tired and stressed, the clergyman, who identified himself as “Father Antonio,” told reporters.
She was discharged at 11:30 p.m. local time after being treated for swollen legs, vomiting and dizziness, reported Teledeporte.
Béjar abandoned his hunger strike, the outlet added.
The dramatic hospitalization occurred 48 hours after Béjar and his sister locked themselves in the Divina Pastora church in Motril to protest the treatment Rubalias received after the scandal of their kisses in the World Cup.

Rubiales, 46, was suspended by FIFA for 90 days last week after he faced serious criticism for kissing Spanish soccer player Jennifer Hermoso after the team’s World Cup win on Aug. 20.
