History has shown that major fads come and go every decade, from the wonderful boot-cut flared pants in the 1970s to the deadly shoulder pads in the 1980s. However, it seems that one article of clothing in particular has generated a significant generation gap.
Millennials, those born between 1981 and 1996, seem to have grown up with a fascination with skinny jeans in an era of Brit pop, side fringe and Motorola flip phones.
Almost certainly everyone had a pair of keys that helped them get through their adolescence and young adulthood at some point. However, some members of Generation Z (those born between 1997 and 2012) appear to have abandoned the ultra-thin denim trend in favor of a more casual look.
“I never imagined skinny jeans would be considered retro, but oh well,” one TikToker used the medium to show her tens of thousands of fans ‘3 ways’ to wear figure-flattering jeans.

Why does Generation Z hate skinny jeans?
The person, who goes by @momohkd, jokingly offered opinions on what to do with the first tip, saying, “Throw them away.” She then threw the black skinny jeans into the trash.
The second “style” suggestion was “burn them,” while the third creative suggestion was “cut them and do something else.”
Unsurprisingly, Millennials were outraged to see that their favorite wardrobe staple had fallen out of favor, with one TikTok user commenting: “Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean we shouldn’t all like them.”
“Guys, what I like about them…” said another, while a third added: “I… kinda like them…”
“Can we stop hating? [sic]pieces of cloth… it’s just clothes,” said another.
“I know some people hate them, but I really like them and feel very comfortable in them,” a fifth revealed.
What are the alternatives to skinny jeans?
Members of Generation Z have now stepped in to offer several silhouettes that former skinny jeans adherents can wear to liven up their look.
From wide-leg, straight-leg jeans to cargo pants and utility pants, it seems like the golden age of skinny jeans and everything that came with them is finally coming to an end.

How did skinny jeans come into the picture?
The origins of skinny jeans date back to the 1950s, when they were initially known as “drain jeans” or simply “drains.” These jeans were characterized by their fitted and tight cut, designed to highlight the legs of the wearer. They became popular with rebellious youth and were often associated with rock ‘n’ roll culture, worn by icons such as Elvis Presley and James Dean.
Skinny jeans continued to gain popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, especially in the mod and punk subcultures. Bands like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols popularized them as a symbol of counterculture and rebellion.
In recent years, the fashion industry has seen a movement toward more relaxed, wide-leg styles, but skinny jeans still have a presence in many people’s wardrobes. Fashion is cyclical, so skinny jeans may see a resurgence in popularity in the future.
